Overview

This nicely redone traditional Kyoto townhouse is a hideaway in the heart of Kyoto, deep in an old alley. A tsuboniwa “bottle garden” can be viewed from the comfortably furnished living room and from the cedar wood bath. This spacious house for two guests has been completely remodeled to accommodate contemporary lifestyles and is tastefully decorated.

Arriving in Ishifudono-cho’s spacious entryway, you’re welcomed into the living room and sunken-floor kitchen. The living room has a sofa, which faces out into the garden. The kitchen, where guests will find the old capped well, also includes a refrigerator, sink, toaster oven, hot water pot, and a small electric stove. The ofuro bath (with shower) and western-style toilet are on this floor as well.

Stairs from the entryway lead to the second floor, which has a small wood-floored sitting room with chairs and a tatami matted room. High-quality futon bedding are stored in a large closet to be laid out on the tatami at night.

Ishifudono-cho is centrally located south of Shijo Avenue, to the west of Kiyamachi Street and the Kamo River and east of Karasuma Avenue.

Ishifudono-cho has been remodeled and is maintained by Iori Co., many of whose staff speak English fluently. Iori staff will help you check in and out and will clean the house for you during your absences. Iori also offers concierge services. Feel free to ask us about recommendations and arrangements for sightseeing, dining, shopping, and entertainment.

Important Notice : Avoiding Fraud

It's rare, but some helpful hints to watch out for with regards to fraud:

  • It is important to NEVER wire funds or use/employ other fund transfer mechanisms such as western union: Always use a credit card to protect yourself against fraud. If owners pressure you into providing a deposit or refuse to accept credit cards, there is a high probability that this is a scam.
  • If at all suspicious of fraud, ask to see their website, or any other literature they can provide or send to you. Ask them for contact details for guests who have previously stayed on their property insisting on telephone numbers. Be suspicious of emails that originate from free email services (yahoo, hotmail, gmail, etc)
  • Research the property thoroughly on the internet to see if there is any history or mention of scams associated with the property.
