Roches Noires is exclusively a residential area along the East coast of Mauritius. With a mixed population of around five thousand souls this small village has still preserved a lot of its specificities. One can still find here very old shops, and typical grocery shops; it also provides other facilities that make of it a modern village. This calm habitat, away from the urban buzz is an ideal hideaway for those seeking peace & tranquility.
The climate in this part of the island is usually very hot and humid in summer. So between November and March a cool T-shirt is all that you need. On winter evenings, unlike in other parts of the island, one only needs a light sweat shirt or a sweater. The nearby market of Rivière du Rempart is just five minutes drive from Roches Noires. There are shops in this market which provide more than the basic stuffs. In terms of restaurants and greengroceries the region is now better furnished. Good restaurants & pizzerias are now opening along the coastal road. For a wider choice, a supermarket is found at the entrance of the village of Goodlands, at a 15-minute drive towards the north.
