It is one of the most visited tourist destinations and visitors who come after exploring this wonderful place have mesmerizing memories. Nairobi can amaze you with its sheer simplicity and profoundly natural surroundings. You can have a wonderful vacation in this beautiful city, which offers a unique amalgam of natural beauty as well as sophisticated life. Check out the various places to see and things to do in Nairobi.
Nairobi National Park
Credited as Kenya's first national park, the Nairobi National Park was established in the year 1945. It is one the most popular tourist destinations and is well maintained by the authorities. It has large areas covered with wild bush and thick dense trees, thus making it the perfect haven for wild animals like zebra, wildebeest, buffalo black rhino, ostrich, baboons, cheetah, lions and giraffe. The national park also has the Animal Orphanage, where sick animals are brought in and treated. It is a lovely place to explore and go on safari and get one with nature!
Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage
Situated close to the Nairobi national park, is the Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage. Here, orphaned baby elephants and rhinos are brought that have been orphaned due to poaching. They are cared for and nourished properly till the time they are capable of surviving on their own in the wild. Once fine, they are returned back into the wild at the Tsavo National Park. The center opens in the morning and visitors can come here to see the baby animals bathing and enjoying themselves in mud holes and being fed by human caretakers.
Snake Park
Another popular attraction here is the Snake Park. Home to a number of species of reptiles, the snake park will fascinate and intrigue you beyond imagination. Even if you are not particularly fond of reptiles, a visit to the snake Park is a must when in Nairobi. Check out the rarest varieties of crocodiles that are native of only Africa and watch them devour their prey in seconds. Pass by the glass cages where you can see some of the most poisonous and deadly snakes and if you are feeling a bit more adventurous, you can also check out snakes kept in deep pits, without the glass covering!
Nairobi National Museum
People coming here would definitely love to know more about this place. In that case, head straight to the Nairobi museum. The interiors of the museum have been thoughtfully laid out. One of the most fascinating aspects of this museum is the floor, which contains human footprints imprinted from the very beginning of civilization. It gives an idea of evolution and how the present human being came into existence. There is also a good collection of fossils and a collection of over 900 species of colorful birds.
You can start off your Safaris from the villa in the morning and return later in the evening for chilling relaxing time. If you choose not to to go to Nairobi, you may opt to go to Machakos town which is only 5 minutes away. There you will find plenty of restaurants and marketplaces amid the bustling streets of Masaku ( Local name for Machakos), where you might pick up a few good souvenirs and some cheap bargains. Or you may alternatively choose to dip your feet in the warm pool and stretch out on the under the tropical sun.
